We are excited to share that Emilia Choińska will be joining Our Scientific Commission during 14th EYEC!

Emilia Choinska, PhD is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering of Warsaw University of Technology (FMSE WUT). She is a member of Biomaterials Group led by prof. Wojciech Święszkowski.  She graduated in mechanics and mechanical engineering (speciality orthopaedic and prosthetic engineering) from Bialystok University of Technology. In 2010, she completed a 6-month internship at the National Institute for Materials Science in Tsukuba, Japan. In 2015, she defended her PhD in materials science at FMSE WUT.  

Her scientific activities mainly focus on biodegradable polymers and composites, their preparation, modification, characterisation, and processing into final application forms such as coatings, particles, scaffolds, etc. She specialises in local drug delivery systems and scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration. 💊

Wirginia Tomczak, PhD, DSc Eng. is the Head of the Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology. 

Her primary research interests focus on the use of membrane processes for the purification and separation of biological solutions. Wirginia Tomczak is the author and co-author of numerous articles published in journals listed in the Journal Citation Report, chapters in peer-reviewed monographs, and patents.  

Wirginia Tomczak gained professional experience at four French research institutions, including: Aix-Marseille University, Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety,  French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission and Synchrotron SOLEIL. Wirginia Tomczak actively participates in Polish and international research projects as well as collaborates as a reviewer with 11 international journals.🔋

We are proud to say that Barbara Strojny-Cieślak has agreed to join 14th EYEC Scientific Committee!✨

Barbara Strojny-Cieślak obtained her M.Sc. degree  in Biotechnology in 2013 from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. She was awarded her Ph.D. and subsequently her habilitation degree (2026) in the discipline of Biological Sciences at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in Warsaw.  She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the CancerResearch Center in Salamanca, Spain, and undertook additional  research internships in Sweden and the Republic of South Africa.  

During her doctoral studies, she was awarded the Minister’s Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scientists. She has served as Principal Investigator of two National Science Centre grants (NCN Preludium, Opus) and has been a key investigator in numerous other projects funded by the NCN and the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR). She is a co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications. 

Her most recent research cycle focused on the mechanisms of hepatotoxicity induced by carbon-based nanomaterials and on the biocompatibility  assessment of graphene family materials in biological models  of varying complexity, including bacteria, in vitro cell culture models and animal models. Her scientific interests also include the application of biomaterials and graphene-based composites for supporting cell growth and promoting tissue regeneration. 🩹

Prof. Aleksandra Królicka, (BEng, MSc, PhD, DSc, ProfTit), is a head of the Laboratory of Biologically Active Compounds, Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk. She is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles (ORCID: 0000-0001-5231-283X), 10 Polish patents and book chapters includes topics focuses on antimicrobial compounds isolation and identification, as well as enhancement of their production in in vitro cultured plants and transformed tissue, natural and synthetic antibacterial compounds, elucidating the mechanisms determining antimicrobial activity as well as developing and improving the process of nanoparticle production. 

We are proud to share that Prof. Anna Masek is joining Our Scientific Committiee!

Professor Anna Masek, (BEng, MSc, PhD, DSc, ProfTit), Head of the Institute of Polymer and Dye Technology in Łódź University of Technology conducts advanced research on bioelastomers, bio-based additives, and the aging mechanisms of rubber materials, with a particular focus on stabilization and degradation processes.  

Her work includes the development of nature-inspired biocomposites and antioxidative systems that enhance the durability and environmental resistance of polymer structures. Within a specialized laboratory dedicated to simulated aging studies, she investigates the effects of external factors on the mechanical performance and service life of polymeric materials.  

A notable achievement of her research is the formulation of eco-friendly anti-UV and antioxidant additives that serve as sustainable alternatives to conventional agents used in the rubber industry. Prof. Masek’s research makes a significant contribution to the development of modern bioelastomers and actively supports the green transition in polymer science and technology.
